We reviewed several resources for how to make simple maracas (and found many not to be so simple!).
This is our favorite project for several reasons:
- No dangerous materials. Many maraca projects we reviewed use light bulbs. This video suggests using a balloon to cover the end of your bottle, and while balloons create a great echo sound, you can also opt to use other materials (e.g. fabric, heavy saran)
- Flexiblity. The materials used can selected for the size and age appropriateness of your child, e.g. use anything from a small yogurt bottle for little ones, to a larger juice or water bottle for older kids.
- Not too messy! Many maraca projects require paper mache’.
